Time to close your Facebook account for Pinterest or Google+?

Like quite a number of you social digital marketers out there, I have tried to use both Google+ and Pinterest, trying to discover the sweet spots of the 2 relatively new social networks available. It has been interesting as I do love the visual driven nature of Pinterest while the (tongue in cheek) Return on Search advantage of Google+ also offers a compelling proposition. Yet, my overall active usage is at best minimal. Unlike continued and increased use of Facebook for brand activities.

I mean I had hoped for something quick fire, easy to use and get conversions flowing but alas it has not turned out quite that simple.
Well, when was anything that was marketing magic wand based? Smart thinking needed.

So, what should one know before putting a brand on either platforms?  Any stats you should take into consideration like who has the most of a single gender? Read this before closing down that brand Facebook account. Complementary is the 'keyword'.

Take a read through this eBook by Hubspot - never mind the obvious pitches it's still got solid insights :-)

  1. Extensively using both platforms has given me a better idea of how they both work. For core brand building and targeting I suggest G+ especially with the hangouts feature but for brands which are very visual, I suggest Pinterest. Of course, these lines of demarcation I have created sometimes blur and become invisible, however personal use of both has proven very useful.
