Are you one of hundreds of small existing and wannabe tech entrepreneurs in Nigeria? Are you dreaming of that big break when your ingenious solution will find the limelight and help solve a major human need - while of course, making you tons of cash (in dollars if you please). You are not alone, almost every quarter of 2010 saw the organizing of some tech developers and entrepreneurs forum - from Bar Camp, to MobiFEST to TEdx Victoria Island and many more.

The dream is a very active one thanks to the ever increasing access to the internet that is being experienced in Nigeria and the growing sense of freedom to battle the odds and succeed.

Success then is what the folks behind IDENTIFIED and BOOKNETO have achieved in the first instance. Both are tech start up companies with Nigerian founders/co-founders. Not many may know that both company's have been able to attract over $1m each as funding from folks in the global tech investors haven - Silicon Valley. Other companies demonstrating the ingenuity of Nigerians include Encypher Limited - creators of Inye - android based tablet and led by Saheed Adepoju. He hopes his product can give the more established kings of tablet  - iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab a run for their money.

This then are exciting times for Nigerian techies and digital marketing in Nigeria generally as they are finally crossing over from owners of ideas to successful business start ups with viable and sustainable business growth.

As a friend of mine likes to say: We cannot wait for the Government to wake up - we have to start creating the opportunities ourselves and then invite Goverment in.

Big ups then to corporate players like Samsung Mobile Nigeria for organising the first ever Mobile applications development contest in Nigeria - Samsung Mobile Apps Developers Contest which ended in November and winners emerged November 25th winning over N1 Million Naira in cash prizes and more. Bigger news is the fact that 52 mobile apps were submitted by Nigerians with 18 making the shortlist. This is unprecedented and has helped Nigerian mobile software developers get the needed boost and self confidence in the knowledge that the market can be responsive to great solutions.

We hear some other innovative tech solutions for brands and businesses are also in beta stage across mobile and web platforms by Nigerian based companies. 2011 promises to be an exciting year with even more success for Nigerian tech practioners.
